Sexual Health Advocacy Introduction: To “advocate” for an issue means to speak out in favor of that issue. When it comes to sexuality and sexual health, there are many things for which we need to advocate. We need to advocate for accurate, responsible, age-appropriate sexuality information to be made available to people of all ages – especially children and teens. Even though abstinence from sex may be a valid choice for someone, we need to actively oppose abstinence-only-until marriage programs, which provide misinformation as well as incomplete information. Above all, we need to advocate for ourselves when we are working with healthcare professionals who fail to raise the issue of sexual health to make sure that our sexual health is seen as a vital component of our overall health.
