Male sexual dysfunction is no longer a hushed topic. Tanks to the publicity about the development of recent medical treatment for erection difficulties and other male sexual disorders, the general public is now aware of common male sexual problems. The availability of the drugs Viagra (sildenafil), Cialis (tadalafil), and Levitra (vardenafil) has advanced the ability to treat common male erectile difficulties. The public discussion has also served as a reminder about how much ignorance and myth still limits our general knowledge about sexual functioning. Our attention in the following pages will be on the types of sexual problems men may encounter over their life span. This chapter is closely tied to the following one, “Psychological and Relationship Aspects of Male Sexuality,” also by this author [Please insert link to chapter here]. The focus there is on effects of sexual dysfunction on the man and his relationships with his sexual partners. Treatment of sexual dysfunction is briefly mentioned in chapter 2 but is more thoroughly discussed in chapters 3 and chapter 4 of this volume.
