Question:
I am a nurse. A man with severe CP has contacted me and has asked for my help. He says he has never had an orgasm and he is now 32 years old. He can't masturbate himself. (I do have a special place in my heart for people & kids with Cp because I had a brother with it but his moderately affected him). I would like to help him somehow but he says he is too embarrassed to talk to his providers about this. i don't want to feel like a whore providing pleasure and i worry about losing my license if I overstep my bounds

: I agree that you shouldn't be the one to provide this man sexual pleasure. Unfortunately, your fears are well founded. Our society doesn't yet support nurses relieving someone sexually such as the man who contacted you. I feel this man could greatly benefit from sexual therapy. I am sure he has plenty to say about sexual issues that he has not felt comfortable in expressing and definitely needs a safe place to do this.
It seems like his contacting you is an act of desperation. In sexual therapy, he may discover there are ways of masturbating that he has not thought of. In my research, several of the most severely impaired men with cp. had developed ingenious ways of masturbating. In sexual therapy, it may be concluded that he could also benefit from some sessions with a sexual surrogate. At any rate, perhaps you could facilitate his meeting with a sexual therapist knowledgeable about disability. You should be able to find one through checking out this site. Hope this info helps,
