Question:
My husband's low sexual desire

Answer:
by Annette Owens:
(06/24/2004)
You have given me much more information, including the fact that you and your husband of five years have not consummated your marriage. With the limited information I have, I am unable to give you much specific advice. I would however encourage you to ask your doctor for a referral to a therapist or counselor who can help you directly to deal with this issue. Even if your husband does not acknowledge that the two of you are having a problem, it is important that you address it with someone. Your husband is a diabetic and suffers from high blood pressure. Both conditions can impact sexual function. Please see the links on the right hand side to articles I have written on these two subjects. Finally, you found thick secretions under your husband’s foreskin and scratches on his body and you suspected that he had been unfaithful to you. Scratches can originate from many sources, and the secretion under his foreskin was most likely smegma, which occurs if the uncircumcised penis is not regularly washed while the foreskin is pulled back. Unfortunately, I have no way of assessing whether your suspicion may be true or not. But I do encourage you to find a counselor who can explore this further with you. Best regards, Annette Owens, MD PhD
