Question:
I was wondering how often a normal, healthy male in his fifty's could achieve an orgasm. My husband can usually achieve an erection, but lately he is not always reaching orgasm.

It is difficult to say how often your husband should be ejaculating now that he is in his fiftys, for men are different even when younger and continue to differ as they age. The one thing I can say is that he probably should still be able to ejaculate, but not as often as he could when he was twenty... or thirty. Sometimes it is hard to know which came first, the chicken or the egg. Is your husband not ejaculating with you because he is masturbating or is he masturbating because he is not ejaculating with you? Your situation demonstrates the importance of open communication within a relationship, for neither you nor I will know what is going on until your husband opens up. You can tell him of your concern and ask him to share, and try to do that without making him feel guilty about any masturbation. The conversation should remain constructive and focused on the questions of what is happening and what the two of you can do to improve your physical intimacy.
