Question:
Hi, I'm 16, and I have a huge concern. I have a lot of questions, and I don't know where to start. I'm really scared if I'm pregnant, and I had sex for the first time on Dec. 22. We didn't use protection, and I got my period on the 24th. What is ovulation? Before we even thought of sex, we would masturbate, and my period came on Dec. 7, but only for 3 days. I understand that when you do masturbate, it can delay your period. I'm supposed to get my period the last and first days of the month, but the day changes sometimes b/c I'm irregular. So,when he pulled out, there was no white stuff, only my clear lubrication. What color is pre-cum? I know he let it out in Oct or Nov when I gave him a hand-job but that was the last time. Is it still alive in him until Dec.? If it is dead, and it gets wet with semen again, will it live again? Can you see the semen when a guy pulls out if he let it out inside of you? My boyfriend says you can feel pre-cum, and also when the semen is going to come out. I want to know if it is possible for a guy to feel when both pre-cum, and the other thing come out? Today is the 31st, and my period is stopping, but I spoke to one of his friends who is pregnant, and she told me I might be pregnant if his pre-cum came out. I'm really scared of my mom, and I'm going to have a test done, but my mom doesn't know a thing...I'm scared to tell her, b/c when she found out my sister wasn't a virgin anymore, she totally freaked, and it was bad. Thanks for listening, and I hope you can answer my questions. ( I know it's confusing)

Hi and thanks for all of your questions. You did ask a lot of questions and I will try to answer them as clearly as possible. Where shall I start?
You asked "What is ovulation?" Ovulation is the release of an egg from one of a woman's ovaries and occurs once a month about two weeks before a woman's period. If the egg and a sperm (sperm are inside of a man's semen) meet up, then a woman can get pregnant from that act of sex.
Your chance of getting pregnant during your period is lower than normal, but that is no guarantee. Unprotected sex at any time is risky because of pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
You also asked about if men are able to tell when they have pre-cum or when they ejaculate semen (cum). Men can NOT tell when they have pre-cum come out of their penis and it can come out any time they are aroused. There is a slight chance that pre-cum contains sperm and pre-cum can also pass on STIs. A man CAN tell when he ejaculates, but most young men are not very good at controlling when they ejaculate and so pulling out is not a good method of protection. Also, you may not be able to tell right away if your boyfriend ejaculated (or came) inside of you, because you would actually have to "push" the semen out of your vagina.
I strongly recommend that you take a pregnancy test (they are most accurate when taken after your first missed period), and that you begin using condoms each and every time you have sex. Condoms are your best protection against pregnancy and STIs and if your boyfriend isn't willing to wear one, then he's not worth having sex with. Your own life and health are worth protecting more than someone who won't respect your healthy decisions.
I hope this has been helpful for you and I wish you good luck!
Take care,
