Many males as they age develop enlarged prostates with no change in their ability to delay ejaculation. I'm not going to advise you on herbal supplements, but will tell you that there are none that will slow a man's ejaculation. There are, however, some over-the-counter products that are reported to foster prostate health (but without shrinking it). Typically it is the younger man who is plagued with rapid ejaculation. With you husband I could think of two things that might contribute to the concern. First, if the frequency of your sexual encounters have dropped, he will be more excited. Second, if he is worrying about his performance, his anxiety might actually make the problem worse. Keep the frequency of your lovemaking up (with mutual agreement) and during intercourse, mount him. Tell your husband to lay perfectly still and you stay in close and move slowly. If he feels that he is getting close to the "point of no return," he should stop you and not let you start again until he feels he is under control again. Be patient and be creative. Take the pressure off and try to just have fun.
You had asked if the doctor should have done a PSA test. Not if the concern was just rapid ejaculation. However, you husband is at the age where he should talk to his doctor about beginning yearly PSA tests, in addition to a yearly digital exam taken rectally. Reviewed by Sexual Health Editorial Team
