Question:
Dear Dr.Konstance McCaffree,

I have browsed your answers and decided to ask your professional opinion regarding the two cases in my life. I apologize in advance for the details, but I need your assessment based on the facts and medical criteria. So, I will try to explain everything.

I lived in another country during that time. One time during my early adolescence (when I was around 11-12 years old) and the second time during my late teens (around 18 years old) there were school exams. When I was 11-12 years old, I sat stupidly in the class. Under the desk, I put my hand in the pants' (trousers) pocket, touched (rather, itched) my penis and had an orgasm. It was my first orgasm in my life - I did not understand what occurred.

The second time (I was 18 years old), there was a very long exam for 6 hours. As I remember, no one idea came to my brain in the beginning of these exams. Again I put my hand in the pocket of my pants and touched my penis; however, I did not expect that it would happen so quickly (it lasted not more than 10-15 seconds). I controlled the situation, but it was very pleasurable, and I did not want to stop. As the results, after that, many good ideas came to my brain, and both exams were very successful. This never happened again in my life. In both cases, my behavior was done very privately, nobody could notice.

What is your evaluation? Were these cases bad? Were they the examples of sexual compulsive behavior? What do you think? Maybe it is a bad idea to share such history; however, I appreciate your expertise and your effort to clarify the issues of human sexuality. It is important for me to know - what was with me. Was it bad? These cases occured in the school? How? I cannot understand. I would appreciate your answer. Thank you so much!

Andrew,

Thank you for trusting me with your question and your personal information. First, let me tell you that there is nothing connected to sexual compulsion here at all, and there is nothing bad or even unusual about what you describe.

Sexual arousal to orgasm when a person is stressed is actually very common behavior, and the fact that it occurred both times when the stress was school and exam related was probably more coincidence than anything else.

Many children, younger than 11 discover during early childhood that if they touch their genitals (and males are more likely to find the penis since it is external and obvious) and calm themselves when they are stressed. Children, age 3-5, are commonly observed by their caretakers and preschool teachers rubbing their genitals when they are stressed.

The name for this that is commonly used is masturbation. In your case, because you were either entering or in puberty you had a fast hormonal reaction to the touching and had an orgasm quickly. The fast orgasm was enhanced by the fact that your body and mind were already under stress and your nerve endings were on edge. You may not have been able to feel the stress in your body, but it was there. Thus just a little bit of touching caused you to respond to it, and quickly.

I don't know if you masturbate now for pleasure but if you do you will be able to see that sometimes the orgasm occurs more quickly than at others, and sometimes you need far more stimulation and excitement.

Men under stress often have quick orgasms during intercourse as well.

Something you may have also noticed that came through in your description was how your brain seemed to work better after that. What that shows you is that when the body has an orgasm, it triggers chemicals throughout the body including the brain, that actually stimulate changes. In your case you were able to think better. Many people use orgasm as a way to relieve pain in the joints and muscles, or to relax. Many men I know have an orgasm before they go to sleep because it relieves the tension, and they can finally rest.

I hope this answers your question, and if you have any more parts to it that I didn't address but that you wanted me to talk about please write back and I will try to help.
