Question:
How effective is condoms against pregnency and what are the best one's to use for that goal.

Answer:
by Yvonne Fulbright:
(05/29/2004)
When used properly and consistently (meaning every time you have sex), latex condoms used with a spermicide are about 98-99% effective in preventing pregnancy. They rarely break. If you use a non-spermicidal condom, the effectiveness drops to 88% (with 12 out of every 100 women getting pregnant). The best condom brand out there can certainly be debated. It's really whatever feels the most comfortable for you and your partner, which brand provides for the best fit. Just do not use lambskin or novelty condoms if you're concerned about pregnancy. In the past, Consumer Reports has rated Sheik Excita Extra Ribbed as the best condom, with Ramses Extra Ribbed with Spermicide as second. Thank you for visiting the Sexual Health Network. Yvonne K.
