Question:
I'm a 21 year old male. During sex a few months ago, my girlfriend got a little overzealous and ended up putting too much pressure between her and my zipper resulting in open sores. After allowing it to heal I realized that there was a flesh colored lump on the base of my penis. There were a few other little ones surrounding it. They don't hurt, they don't itch and I'm not sure what they are. I've been too embarrassed to go to a doctor and have been attempting to find out online. I haven't been overly alarmed due to it not being irritated, painful, or itchy. Any idea what this could be?

Honey, you don't need to worry, but you need to go to a doctor. You may have genital warts, but I can't digosne you online. You could go to a Planned Parenthood, call 1 800-230-Plan to find the nearest one to you, which is confidential, no one can find out if you have been there, and you won't be turned away based on your income or your age. The doctors there are really nice and they specialize in this stuff so they won't make you feel any more nervous than you already are. The thing I want you to be well aware of is that genital warts will NOT go away on their own and it will become more difficult to treat them the longer you wait. You can also expose your girlfriend or any other sexual partner to them and then they can get the bumps, and I"m sure you don't want that to happen. So, left untreated they will get bigger, expose your partner to them and become harder to treat. Going to the doctor will treat them so they go away and explain what's going on if you DON't have them. Nothing growing or oozing off the genitals goes away on it's own. The symptom may go away, but the cause of it is still there and will pop out again. Good luck and thanks for writing to us! Megan Andelloux Editors note: Another possibility is that these lumps are scar tissue resulting from the injury sustained from the zipper. As Megan Andelloux said, just get in to see a doctor and have it checked out.
