There can be a number of reasons why a man develops problems getting a firm
erection, even after many years of good sexualy functioning. Among the
reasons for difficulties for example can be a number of medical conditions,
side effects of drugs or medications, alcohol or tobacco use, life style
stress, anxiety about sexual performance which only makes matters worse,
emotional concerns, or relationship issues.
Sometimes the reasons are obvious, or can be uncovered by referring to a
practical book on erectile problems (for example: The Sexual Male: Problems &
Solutions , Drs. Milsten & Slowinski). Even though your husband is reluctant
to see a doctor about your mutual concern, it is always wise to consult with
a doctor to rule out the presence of a medical condition for which erectile
problems can be an early warning sign. This is not be overlooked. If there is
not medical condition causing the problem, a doctor's direct advice, or
writing a prescription for erection enhancing medications, or referral to a
counselor may be all that is needed to restore good erectile functioning.
