Question:
I would like to know the risk of contracting differnt STDS through oral sex with a man without a condom. How much is the risk reduced if I do not swallow ejaculate? I have multiple partners and am especially concerned about herpes since I don't know much about it. I don't have any symptoms however.

Whether or not you swallow the ejaculate has little to do with whether or not you'll be infected with an STD. One major factor is whether or not the man cums in your mouth, especially with regard to the STDs gonorrhea, syphilis, chlamydia, or herpes. Simply skin-on-skin contact with a person infected with genital warts could transmit the virus. Furthermore, studies are finding that the risk of contracting HIV via oral sex is greater than what was previous thought. To reduce your risk of contracting an STD or HIV from a guy before performing fellatio, make sure his penis is covered with a condom. Condoms and lubes come in different flavors, so this experience can be quite tasty. Plus, putting lube on the inside tip of the condom will still provide a lot of sensation for him. If you prefer to perform oral sex unprotected, be weary of any sores or open cuts you may have in or around your mouth. Avoid flossing before meeting up with a partner and brush no sooner than two hours before. Thank you for visiting the Sexual Health Network. Yvonne K. Fulbright, MS.Ed.
