Question:
Often during intercourse I get a sharp pain in the right side of my lower stomach. Also, 4 times in the past I have had to stop having sex because the pain went from the right side of my lower stomach, up my butt crack, and into my lower back. The pain is intense and paralyzing. I can't move without feeling pain for about 45 minutes. Then it is gone. Please help!

What you are experiencing sounds like some sort of nerve pathway disruption, maybe even a 'slipped intevertebral disc.' You will need to go and see your doctor, who may refer you to a neurologist or an orthopaedic specialist, who will have a good look at your spinal column and your hip joints. It could be anything from sciatica (a sharp pain when pressure is applied to the sciatic nerve, which runs aound near your hip and buttocks and down the back of your thigh) to something more serious going on in the vertebral column.

On the other hand, it could be an issue with penetration and discomfort. A condition called dysparenunia. If the doctor gives you the all clear, look into different types of positioning and experimenting with the depth penetration, at different times of the month - and keep a 'pain log' which may help identify patterns and causes.

Best Wishes, Melissa BEE
