Question:
Can you be a virgin and still get pregnant?

Answer:
by Konstance McCaffree:
()
You can, though there is really only one way that this can happen. Remember that in order for pregnancy to occur, the sperm from the male (which is microscopic and lives inside of the whitish semen he produces) combines with an ovum (egg) produced by the female. They meet up in the fallopian tubes. Pregnancy usually occurs when the penis is placed inside the vagina, the sperm is ejaculated into the vagina and swims to the egg.

The only other way pregnancy might occur is if the man ejaculates just at the opening to the vagina, and the sperm, inside of the semen, is able to swim into the vagina and up. That is why if a man has semen on his fingers and puts them inside of the vagina it is possible for pregnancy to occur as well.

To prevent pregnancy it is very important to keept the semen away from the opening of the vagina by using a latex condom to create a barrier.
