Dear S., Thank you for writing to Sexualhealth.com. Your letter brings two important things to mind. First has to do with lubrication during anal intercourse. The anus is a very sensitive part of a person's body -- and many people enjoy anal intercourse. It is important, however to use lubrication, because this part of the human body does not produce any natural lubrication. There are many products that are available -- and it is important to choose one that you enjoy. We usually recommend that you not use products that contain spermicide because these can be irritating to anal tissues. Alternatives can be purchased in a drug store -- look for personal lubricant. Another alternative is to use the white of an egg. This does not contain any chemicals and may be preferable to things that you might purchase. Your second question about the safety of cum during anal intercourse. If you and your husband have no outside partners, there is no risk in his cum in your anus. If he has other partners, however, this becomes a very high risk to you. Sexually transmitted disease is easily spread this way. At any rate, you must ask your doctor to test your anus as well as your vagina for sexually transmitted disease when you go for your yearly examination! Please write if you have any other questions. Sincerely, Susan Ludwig, R.N., B.Sc.
