Question:
My girlfriend is a runner for our university, and she runs typically around 5-10 miles per day, and she thinks maybe that this fact contributes to her inability to have an orgasm; she's never had one. It's been 6 months for us, we haven't had sex, but everything else just about. She feels close, "but no cigar". Does running sometimes hinder orgasms?

Thank you for submitting your question. It is possible that extreme athletes may lose some of their libido. Can your girlfriend reach orgasm from masturbating? If the answer is "yes", than perhaps she can tell you how to touch her. Otherwise, it may be her athleticism that plays a role. Hope this information helps. Editors note: An alternative possibility is that your girlfriends' athleticism actually could help her to be more orgasmic, rather than less orgasmic. Physical fitness can tend to increase testosterone levels and diminish the sometimes sluggish effects of estrogen. In addition, the development of muscles and increased efficiency of the cardiovascular system throughout the body can certainly enhance sexual response in both females and males. Most likely, the fact that your girlfriend has not yet had an orgasm during partnered sex is directly related to her knowledge about her own sexual response and her ability to share that with you. Have fun, be playful, learn about her body and encourage her to teach you about what feels good to her. Typically, once a woman gets comfortable with her own body and sexual response, she can then begin to incorporate that knowledge and experience into the sexual relationship with her partner. Enjoy!
