Question:
Hi Dr. It's me again. Thanks for your reply earlier. It puts me to rest. But I am still wondering what can cause her late period. Firstly, she isn't stressed out because I doubt she even remembers that incident. Secondly She has told me she's been having trouble sleeping of late, so she's been going to bed at like 3 am the past week or so. So I am wondering can a change in sleeping habits cause this delay in her period? She's 18 right now, does she still fall into the catagory of a changing menstural cycle? Thanks for your help once again.

I'm glad my reply was able to help you. As I mentioned previously, it is not unusual for a young woman to have irregular menstrual cycles. If your girlfriend is experiencing changes in her sleeping cycles or diet, these can certainly affect her periods. If she's really concerned about it, it might be helpful to see a gynecologist or visit a Planned Parenthood center to get checked by a reproductive healthcare professional. They might recommend taking birth control pills to help make her periods regular.

Good luck to both of you. Larry Siegel
