What an excellent question. There are many reasons that you may have pain after orgasm if you continue intercourse. The nerve endings that are stimulated by orgasm may be especially 'exposed' meaning they will be more tender. Additionally, the lubrication that you naturally produce may have dried up and there is too much dry stimulation up against nerves.
You didn't say where the pain was, so my answer may not be accurate depending on that pain. I would suggest that you resubmit the question to someone else on the site who might answer for other types of pain. Dr. Beverly Whipple might be a good one for your question.
I would not think that your boyfriend would be upset that after orgasm there can't be other types of hugging, cuddling and stimulation that would not cause pain, since after a man has an orgasm he often has a period of time when stimulation cannot continue either. The male body needs time for it to make changes after orgasm. Though the female body may not need that much time, YOU may need it and that is what is important. Each of us is different and we respond differently.
One suggestion I would make is to relax after orgasm and give yourself time by cuddling and doing other types of touching. THen use plenty of water or silicone based lubricant when you have subsequent intercourse. Having a great deal of lubricant can be very helpful, and most couples need more than the body can produce.
