Question:
I just have some questions about birth control. I am taking ortho-tricyclin and I wonder if and when I ovulate, and if it is possible to get pregnant during the last week (while I am having my period). Thank you

So, one of the reasons pregnancy is greatly reduced from happening while on the pill is that ovulation rarely happens. It can, but very infrequently.
So, why does it seem that someone always knows of some girl/woman getting pregnant while they were on the Pill? The main reason? Because they took the pill at a later time than they were supposed to. OR, they were on a medication that reduces the effectiveness of the pill. That's why it is so important that two things happen while a person is taking birth control pills.
The first is to take it at the same time every day so your body doesn't try to pop out an egg. The second thing is to tell every doctor, if they put you on a new medication, that you are taking birth control pills. Some medications that women are on, can reduce the effectiveness of the pill and increase the chances of getting pregnant. So, next time a doctor asks, "Are you on any medications?", telling them that you are on the birth control pill is mighty importanto.
Lastly, enjoy your period! Some women become very sexually charged while they are bleeding and as long as safer sex methods are practiced if you don't know of your sexual health (do I have an std?) then frolic away! During the time of menstruation, conception is at it's lowest peak. That doesn't mean it can't happen (pregnancy) but it is the time of the month where is it least likely to happen.
Hope this helps and encourages you to take your pills on time, talk to your doctor and enjoy your sexual desires at any time of the month!
