Question:
I have had genital herpes for three years but I have had very few outbreaks and now I am 36 weeks pregnant and just got an outbreak for the first time in more than a year!!! I am quite worried about what could happen to my unborn child, will I be able to have a normal birth or will I have to have a c-section??? Thank you for answering my question!

Since genital herpes can be transmitted from an infected mother to her baby while in utero or while giving birth, you are right to be concerned. It is likely that your physician will want to perform a C-section if you are having an outbreak during the time of delivery. It is best to talk to your obstetrician about your options and about making sure that every measure is taken so that your baby will not be harmed.
